IPI's objectives
The objects of the Independent Producers Initiative Inc are :
− to increase the size and profitability of the Australian feature film production sector; and
− to promote the interests of Australian feature film producers.
Film production is an industry sector - producers are an industry group in that sector
• we are manufacturers
• we are net contributors to the Australian economy:
• we create jobs
• we export our products, in multiple formats
• we earn export returns
We are also in a part of the national cultural spectrum, along with sport and literature
• we create part of the national identity: people outside Australia see the country through the perspective of the films we make
• our product underpins the branding and imagery of '"Australia Inc" , it stimulates demand for tourism and other exports – the Crocodile Dundee factor that brings in eco-tourists and makes people buy wine with a crocodile or a kangaroo on the label.
We are also in the information technology sector
• we develop intellectual property and manufacture multi-use products based on it, and re-purpose them for multiple end-users
We are not about grants and hand-outs
• we are manufacturers of cultural products; like other industries, we need venture capital to develop and test in a very small local market, so we can compete in the global market
